Algiers Friendship Day
March 8, 2009
Algiers
is the first suburb in New Orleans, it was founded in 1731 by a grant to
Bienville! Algiers is on the Westbank, directly across the Mississippi river
from the French Quarter!
Because of the "Crescent" bend in the river, you
can sit on Westbank levee and watch the sun set on the Eastbank!!! And
because of this natural flow of the river the land in the Algiers is about 8 feet above sea
level!!
All of the founding nationalities settled on the Bestbank, "Westbank to the uninitiated". French, Spanish, Scottish, Germans, Italians, Africans and especially the IRISH!
Algiers
Friendship Day is one of the best parties that is thrown in the New Orleans area!!!!
The Corned Beef and Cabbage, Live Music (by
Chicken on the Bone), Beer, Hot Dogs,
and Soft Drinks are ALL FREE!!!
The 2009 event was sponsored by:
Algiers Shamrock Society, Algiers Lions Club, Skips Wild Irish Clan, Donewar's Saltwater Guide Services, Krewe of Choctaw, La. Senator David Heitmeier, Algiers Irish Rebels, Old Point Bar, and of course! Aurora Catering! We cooked the Corned Beef and Cabbage!
This is a view of the event from the top of the Mississippi River levee!!
